This caponier is at the end of one arm of the dry ditch. It was designed to control and prevent the movement of enemy troops through the dry ditch system. Soldiers manning Fort Amherst could have reached this caponier via a tunnel from Amherst Redoubt, or from two stairways from the Prince of Wales Bastion. Unfortunately these stairways have now been blocked, and the site of the Prince of Wales Bastion is now a tennis club.
