Ramsgate Drain Tunnel
Thanet Area

This tunnel is about half a mile long, and can be accessed in four places. The pipes carried water, and were also used to supply the railway with water for steam engines. They were built at the same time that Ramsgate train depot was under construction, and running the pipes underground meant that maintenance to the pipes would not cause disruption to the railway above. A lot of the tunnel is cut and covered, although some Victorian brickwork still remains.
