HOUGHAM BATTERY

Hougham Battery was one of the coastal defence batteries along the Dover coast, consisting of three 8” naval guns. Along with the guns and their corresponding magazines, Hougham Battery complex consisted of a plotting room and observation posts along with other ancillary buildings.

There is very little remaining of the battery today, as it was covered with soil during the 1970’s.

The following pictures were taken during a dig in conjunction with the owners of Hougham Battery, using their equipment.
