Langdon Prison Wardens Air Raid Shelter
Dover Area

This small air raid shelter was used by the warden of Langdon prison which held prisoners of war during the Second World War. There had been a prison on the site since the late nineteenth century, and it saw use as a military prison from 1901 to 1908, when it was closed. Although a lot of the prison buildings had been demolished by 1925, the domestic quarters and the infirmary still remained. It was eventually closed for the last time in 1948, and today foundations are all that remains. The air raid shelter is the most intact structure left from this complex.
