Seven Sisters
Thanet Area

Not sure why this is called the Seven Sisters, Most likely this name is of local origin.

The Seven Sisters caves are located at Joss Bay in Broadstairs, where the famous smugglers gang the Callis Court Gang used to hide their smuggled goods. The gang leader Joss Snelling was born in 1741, and lived to the age of 96. He was still smuggling goods at the age of 89 when he got fined £100 for smuggling. But the the Callis Court Gang got a bit unlucky one day when they were unloading cargo at Botany Bay. They were surprised by a preventive patrol, and claimed the lives of 15 of Joss's gang, and six others were hanged in nearby Sandwich. Joss Snelling was presented to a young Queen Victoria as 'the famous Broadstairs smuggler'. He even gave his name to a local cove called Joss Bay where another nearby smugglers cave was used by the same gang.
