South Foreland Battery Deep Shelter One Dover Area
This is the first of the two deep
shelters that were built at South Foreland. It was probably used by
the people who manned the nearby plotting rooms as well as gun crews
and operations staff. This deep shelter has three entrances, which
have been sealed since the mid-eighties. Inside, the shelter is in
very poor condition. The plywood has rotted away from the walls, and
the tarred paper that was used to line the ceiling has become totally
covered in a white mould, which also covers some of the stairs and
walls in places.
