The Royal Observer Corps Posts were used during the Cold War period in the event of a nuclear attack. Three men were posted here at a time and it was their duty to pinpoint the location of a nuclear detonation and to monitor it's power and the direction of radioactive fallout. Each post had telephone and radio links to a main co-ordination centre. This post was opened in May 1962 and closed only a few years later in October 1968.
