WESTERHAM MINES

There are six entrances to these mines, although all of them are blocked off. This is because Westerham mines are now a bat reserve, and access to these mines is by permission only.

The mines were originally dug to excavate the sandstone and ragstone that many of the local buildings are constructed of. The nearby church is certainly one of those buildings. A lot of the tunnel complex has been backfilled and many passages are no more than four feet high - some are even lower.
